iPhone 3G 8GB won't turn on/charge. Assistance needed

This happened when I was sat in a taxi and the phone fell onto the floor. I noticed it had switched off but thought nothing of it until I got home to place in on charge.

the following morning I noticed it wouldn't respond and thought I was screwed.

I've called Apple to arrange for a pick-up to see if they will sort this out. The phone still has 170 days of warranty, so I'm thinking I'll be covered.

NOW - I went into the o2 store thinking I'd get some kind of support but I was obviously wrong. There is less than a fingernails width of a gap from the silver trim to the back cover right next to the sleep button. They say if the phone has this then the warranty it void!!

I was so angry to hear this about somehting so minor. IF ANYONE HAS A SIMILAR STORY WITH A GOOD OR BAD OUTCOME, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. ALSO, IF ANYONE CAN CLEAR UP THIS WARRANTY ISSUE, IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

I hear Apple's warrany is excellent if the fault found is software related, not sure what it's like if the device has been 'damaged' albeit accidently

Are there any marks to indicate it's been 'dropped' or 'fallen' if not you may get lucky!!

Thanks for getting back to me. I gave up hope!

Well the phone had its share of dinks on the corners, but this had never stopped the phone from working in the past and they arent even that bad. The phone just literally stopped working so it's anyones guess to what has gone wrong.

I sent it to Apple yesterday, which I didn't want to do as it's easier to disregard the phone when the owner isnt there. I wanted to take it to the shop, but I couldn't get there.

I'll post the outcome

Just hold the home and sleep button until it comes on. The same thing has happened to me and it eventually starts working again. Dont give up hope or send to apple

For some reason, Apple came to the conclusion that it had water in the headphone jack. Remeber this phone stopped working while in my pocket!

Absolute joke!

JFYI, the price they wanted to fix this was £147

this company will do it for £40

Can anyone recommend them or know what they are like?
