O2 Tariffs changing?

My other half got a text message to day to tell her that from next month her £35 tariff will be going from 200 mins and texts to 600 mins and 500 texts.

So, are the effects of competion are being felt already?

Re: O2 Tariffs changing?

My contract is about to expire and just earlier today I've renewed my contract but upgraded to an iPhone.

I don't know what the old deals were but I can confirm the £35 per month option included 500 mins & 600 Texts as well as unlimited internet & wireless.

You are being moved to the current tariff, which has been current the best part of two years. You were on an old tariff and o2 are moving you up automatically. Nothing to do with competition.

the contract was taken out a year ago next week, the £35 contract (200 & 200) was current then.

So there must be something wrong somewhere

Re: O2 Tariffs changing?

When you say it was taken out, was it a new contract or an upgrade? Were you already on an o2 contract?

we've been with O2 for a decade or so now. old one finished, she got an iPhone £35 per month 200 and 200. Does that make a difference then?

I took out a £45 contract and got the full 1200 mins and 500 texts

Re: O2 Tariffs changing?

Well it makes a difference yeah, it seems to me that when upgrading last year, she has kept the same tariff which was ok to do, even though it was out of date, BUT

there is no iPhone 200 and 200 tariff. It seems to me that you have somehow managed to get an iPhone on upgrade, but not move to an iPhone tariff, if that makes sense

Re: O2 Tariffs changing?

I've had an iPhone tariff since launch in the UK and as far as I'm aware the £35 tariff has always been 600mins and 500 text

Check my signature for a quick comparison on the tariffs, It might be out of date but it should give you an idea if they were fobbing you off or not.

When the original iPhone launched on O2 in November 2007 the tariffs were quite a lot crapper. The £35 tariff was 200 mins / 200 texts, the £45 tariff was 600 mins / 500 texts, and there was a £55 tariff too (which had the current £45 tariff allowances IIRC). Those tariffs only lasted a few months though as O2 revised them in Jan/Feb 2008 and migrated* the existing users onto the new tariffs (those on the old £55 tariff were moved to the new £45 tariff as it gave the same allowances for less, and the £75 tariff was introduced as a new option). That was when I got my original iPhone.

*At least that's what was supposed to happen - if the OP's wife only just got moved then might be worth asking for some compensation as she may well have been overpaying if she was using more than 200 mins / 200 texts per month and getting charged for them.

The £30 iPhone tariff only got introduced when the iPhone 3G launched.
