Why can't I play YouTube in safari?

Is it just me or safari cannot play YouTube videos that are imbedded in websites eg like links posted in some threads on this forum or in articles on iClarified. All I see is a window with a play icon which is crossed out. When I press on it nothing happens, I thought that if it doesn't want to play directly in safari then maybe it will open the link in the YouTube application.

Because youtube videos are imbedded in Flash and the iPhone has no Flash support.

No. The the videos have already been converted into mp4. The app is a standalone iPhone app and not a link to YouTube itself.

Hmm, that's not my experience - when I see embedded youtubes it always either lets me open up the app, or for stuff like safari, facebook and twitter apps, plays it in-app.

You can download a software called imobilecinema which allows you to view them. Just Google it.

same here since 3.2 i can now open all embedded you tube vids in app as well works from facebook anyway !
