unlocked O2 handset running on orange sim - will i be able to run stock OS?

Hi

I have an unlocked O2 Iphone running on orange network

Now orange is releasing the iphone soon, will i be able to update my iphone in Itunes with latest OS?

i hope so!

Although i'm sure you right, could i get a basic explaination why? i'm assuming they lock the imei numbers to networks or something?

Your iPhone will be locked to O2 when you update to the latest firmware. If you would like to preserve your unlock then head over to the dev team blog for how to do that. But there is currently no exploit for the 5.11 baseband update that apple have packaged in with the latest firmware update.

There is a remote possibilty that when Orange and vodafone come into the fold that O2 will offer official unlocks for all their iPhones. I know for sure that vodafone offer unlocks on all their phones. So it is a possibility and O2 have been tight lipped about it all.
