Hi all!

Recently purchased a used, jailbroken, unlocked iphone 3g and thanks to a ton of use of the search facility on this forum, everything's been absolutely spot on with it - until now!

For the first time I've just tried to put some music on it and I assumed, as with every other ipod I've had - about six now - that you could just drag and drop your tunes from your music library into the iphone. Apparently not.

The only way it's letting me do it is to go into the music tab on the iphone and sync. which would be fine but when i try to do it, I'm getting a big warning message saying the iphone is already synced with another itunes and that if I want to change this, it will erase what's on it and sync afresh with my itunes.

Two questions:
1. Does that mean it will erase EVERYTHING on the iphone, or just the music? It has a ton of apps on it, including the likes of TomTom for Western Europe, which I'm sure cost the previous owner a few quid, and I'm loath to bin them and start from scratch.

2. or is it something to do with the version of itunes I'm running? i just updated it to the newest latest version. Is it just iphones that stop you from drag n drop, or will that happen on other ipods now as well?

And a supplementary question

If the answer to 1 and 2 is "you're screwed", is there any other way to get music on there, like dragging and dropping using windows somehow?

It will wipe everything. If it didn't, you are effectively stealing the music/apps that are already on the phone.

After the initial synch with your library, it will then be drag and drop as usual.

There are ways and means around what you are trying to do. Apparently. Ahem ahem.

and that's a nasty cough you have there!!!

I mean, obviously i don't want to be seen to be indulging in petty theft - and i did pay the going rate for the iphone and all that accompanied it - but these mysterious 'ways and means' you speak of? Any hints or tips?

Just for anyone who finds this thread in a search and is looking for the same answers i was...

It did depend on the guy I'd bought the iphone from doing me a large favour and providing the original number to hex edit but after that it was a dawdle.
