Whats the chances of getting a replacment?

Hey everyone

Well ive just taken my capsual rebel off my Iphone 3G to notice 2 cracks going from the dock connecter leading up the back of the phone!

One is about 3mm in length and the other is 6mm in length!

Im so gutted because ive always taken really good care and its always had a screen protector on it and lives in its Capsual.

Ive got an appointment booked for tomorrow what do you think the chances of getting it replaced will be?

Is it a white iphone......if so there is an acknowledged problem with them particularly 3g, though my 3gs has started showing cracks around the dock connector after my first was replaced for cracks on the top edge.

Do a google search for cracked iphone case or similar, i had a thread on here a month or so ago

Its a black one!

So do you think i should get a replacment?

I used to have a black 3g and I had it replaced no problem, twice actually for the same problem. Took it into manchester apple store and they just swapped it straight over. Didnt want to risk sending it away and although i'm in newcastle was worth the trip to get a replacement there and then, if your close to an apple store i would just make an appointment and go see them, if they say they wont replace it mention that you know numerous people that have had the phone replaced for the same issue.

Does it have to be under a year old because my 3G that I bought in August 2008 has started showing a pretty long crack up the back (from the charging area).

I'm not sure, I would guess so however if it is a manufacturing defect they might be nice, i managed to get the casing of my macbook replaced out of warranty because it was a known issue, no harm in trying.

Well i got home from work plugged my iphone into itunes as i needed to restore it to get rid of all my data so i started the process but guess what it buggered up crahsed! Now my phone wouldnt boot up at all

At this point i was running out of time so had one last attempt and put it in DFU mode but still no luck! Oops

Now on to the store arrived and explained i was bringing it in for the cracks but in the process of trying to restore it buggered up and wont boot!
His reply "No problem" took the phone off me checked the water marks, took my sim out got a replacment out put my sim in and activated it for me then got me to sign a piece of paper about data protection and i was done!

Easy peesey!

The next problem i have is i was applying my backup last night but it kept crashing again!

So i have a feeling the backup has buggered up! Luckily i was able to sync my contacts with windows contacts and transfer my photos off it!

Im now going to jailbreak to 3.1.2 in work on a seperate PC delete all backups of my old phone with in itunes, remove itunes and reinstall itunes on my home pc.
I then should be able to sync my contacts and photos back on as a new iphone. Anything else can be can be reinstalled or synced again! main thing was saving my contacts!

Dont belive it this is doing the same! Trying to restore from 3.1 too the customer 3.1.2 firmware but each time sits on "preparing iphone for restore" for ages! then crahes saying theres been an unkown error!

Even tried doing it in DFU mode and its doing the same!!

Can anyone help?

Can I ask - was your original iPhone still in warranty?

Just noticed my Wife's iPhone has a crack the same as the one you mentioned...
