iPhone water damage (slightly different)

Hi guys,

I dropped my iPhone 3GS 32gb in the toilet for about 2 seconds. Don't ask me why or how... I'm dealing with emotional trauma.

What I am asking is how to deal with it. It still seems to work fine EXCEPT that the backlight doesn't work. I have put it in a bowl of rice and and have heated the bowl with a hairdryer. Is there anything else I should be doing and if the backlight does not work within the next week what is the next step? I have had a severely damaged iPhone 3G fixed with an ethanol bath but it cost £90 and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do?

I really hope someone can help. While I am posting this I will be checking for help on the forum. I do understand several people may have had this problem but I feel mine is slightly different as the backlight is the only malfunction so far!

Thanks.

Hi, it is easiest to change the LCD, they are available for around £60 online.

They are quite easy to change too!

Am I the only one who is wondering what was in the toilet at the time?

OP have you put it in the airing cupboard overnight in said bowl of rice?

One night in a bowl of rice periodically heated by a hair dryer and we are back in business!

Interesting!

I had read that it's best to submerge electronic items in isopropyl alcohol which is supposed to drive out any water and then let the item dry out naturally?

Don't think I would like to try it with my iPhone though

My friend has damaged two screens. 9 quid plus postage each off ebay. He's got repairing them down to an art!
