Spotting a Fake?

this may have been covered but doing a search i did not find anything...

What i am looking to know is what to look for when buying a i phone 2nd hand..

Went to see one for sale localy at lunch time today and it looked ok..

Few marks etc.. but it was a 3g 16gig model..

Guy has a box and a lead tho thats about it. No receipt so maybe taken a risk..

Tryed my sim in the phone and it seems to work ok, but with all these fakes about etc i really dont want to hand over the 260 the night if its a fake..

thanks in advance for any help or info..

p.s remember looking at a vid on youtube of a fake and it run very slow.. This one i am looking at seems to run fine tho is there any task i can give it that a fake would not be able to do?

Also anything stand out on the fake i phone that i could see?

As now all the major networks are doing (or will be shortly) iPhones, I would expect the price to drop dramatically. I'd hold off buying a second hand one for a couple of months and see if you can pick a new one up on a cheaper contract... or even, dare I suggest, investigate other smartphones such as the Samsung Tocco Ultra or Nokia 5800?

I do not think the prices will drop dramatically. There are other parts of the world where iPhones are sold by multiple carriers in the same country and the prices don't differ.

Re: Spotting a Fake?

what you could is is tap in the serial number on the apple website? I didn't register mine via itunes as i got it jailbroken and unlocked within 5 mins of it coming out of the sealed box, but the moment I connected it to itunes (in it's unlockled state) it auto registered with apple.
