Flash flash flash!!

The main reason putting me off the iphone at the moment is no webpage flash support why on earth would apple allow this to happen every other smart phone will be getting the newest version later this year. Why dont apple listern to there customers and get it sorted its only a software issue. I can put up with no flash on camera/no bluetooth support/and even the 3.2 camera and tied to itunes. So whos fault is it apples for not listerning or adobe not taking to apple. A device like this needs this type of support else it will be left behind by other makes eg htc hero. Do you want my money apple or not

Re: Flash flash flash!!

It's mainly because Steve Jobs hates it and has publicly said it's not good enough, have a read here but yeah he's shooting himself in the foot.

Re: Flash flash flash!!

Every other smart phone? The only smartphones that can do it properly currently are newer andriod phones, and they really struggle with it. Whats so great about it anyway, it's just fluff most of the time and slows browsing down. Website developers are lazy and dont learn to achieve much of the same with javascript etc. I hate horrible over-desgined bloated websites that take an age to load and slow your browser down. The only thing that flash is good for IMO is video (youtube, iplayer etc) - which the iPhone does support.

That said, i have no doubt Apple will add support within the next year or so. They won't have much choice. But flash itself need improving and optimising for the new breed of mobile browser, which is happening.

Re: Flash flash flash!!

Or if you do a bit of research, and have a logical think you might come to a more informed conclusion

At the end of the day the main uses for flash are annoying adverts and video streaming. Now annoying adverts really aren't worth implementing flash into a mobile operating system for, handsets are low powered with small processors, and having webpages load up with four or five flash adverts in is just going to make a miserable web use experience.

Now as for flash video, its slowly being replaced by HTML5 which was actually implemented in the iphone 3.0 upgrade, and as far as i know the iphone is the only phone on the market which supports this new format natively, and as autopilots post has just prompted me to remember, iphone does support flash videos.

This is a rubbish thread that has been done hundreds of times before.

Re: Flash flash flash!!

It's a strategic issue. HTML 5 is a more elegant way of dong the Flash type thing and is also non-proprietary, and Apple are backing it long term to be the eventual winner. Apple always take the long view, they may appear to get left behind but this is not usually the case. Everyone berated them for not allowing 3rd party apps and that they were lagging behind other smartphones. However, they now have a market dominating position with 85,000 applications. They have a track record of coming from behind to eventually dominate a market.

Re: Flash flash flash!!

Flash can be used for more than video and annoying adverts. I develop in Flex and would love to be able to write an app with it that I could run on my iPhone. However I fear the real issue is that Apple wouldn't like to see apps written that effectively bypass their draconian / unpredictable approval process.
