Awkward situation with my iphone

So I went into the apple store in Glasgow today to have a look at a less bulky cover case. I was looking at that air support one which clips on the back.

I asked the woman who was there to give me a hand so she says if I want to see it on my iphone so I say yes.

She tries to put it on for a while before realising that it was in fact the cover for an ipod touch! So she goes and find a black one for my iphone to try on and it looks good on but it was black and my iphone is white so no good and they have no others so end of story will order online.

So then I'm going down the stairs and notice some marks and in fact when she was trying to foce the ipod touch case on my iphone she cracked the back of my iphone!

I go back upstairs and find another person to help and tell him what happened. He goes finds the manager who says he can replace it for me now but I will lose all my stuff or I can come back in tomorrow and get it changed. Lucky since it was jailbreaked and had a vodafone sim in it!

So going back tomorrow after I've backed it all up! BUT I need this phone unlocked. Will the new phone have 3.1 on it or 3.01 do you think? Will I be able to save the ECID and SHSH on Cydia again?

It's good service for them to replace it without any argument or anything so +1 rep for Apple service!

I'm pretty sure there aren't any refurb 3GS units about yet, but if you have a 3G it will be a refurb.

Re: Awkward situation with my iphone

To be honest though, it doesn't matter if its refurb or not. Refurbs have new cases and new batteries its just a mixture of refurb and new parts inside. They're tested to be "good as new" too.

AND, with apples green recycling policy even new phones have aspects of refurb phones inside them.

AS, did you see a large iPhone retail box on the table or a small brown box? I've never seen anyone get a factory fresh model?

mine was a refurb, its mint thought you'd never know it even had all the plastic on it.

Just Curious here but....Did they not notice your jailbreak? assuming you have J/B apps on your homescreen or maybe cydia, when they was messing with ur phone
Do they even wake the screen from sleepmode? I suppose if they did they would have also noticed the vodafone carrier badge at top of screen

They never woke it from it's slumber. Even if they did notice I don't see what my voided warranty has to do with them scratching my phone!

Re: Awkward situation with my iphone

Okay so looking for some opinions.

I'm leaving the country for a few years on Wednesday. All was set wiht my new iphone unlocked until the scratching incident.

But now I have a brand spanking new iphone 3gs with firmware 3.1 on it.

Three options : -

1) Hold tight and hope the dev team come up with an unlock for this. Is that going to happen? I'm a firm believer that they will get through it eventually.

2) Sell the phone and get another one where I'm going. Taking into account the phone is £600 where I'm going this doesn't seem like such a great idea.

3) Sell the phone and go back to my blackberry

I'm thinking I will get what I paid for the phone though considering it is brand spanking new and I could through in some screen protectors and cases for it as well!

Re: Awkward situation with my iphone

I do believe the dev team will have 3GS jailbreak/unlock tools available over the next few weeks, although as you are going out of the country so soon I definitely wouldn't risk it.

I would advise selling up and getting something you know you will be able to use on your desired carriers.

Where are you going ? If unlocked is important then get a factory unlocked one. You will be going through this everytime Apple release a new firmware otherwise. Thats assuming the dev team can get it unlocked.

I mean I don't mind waiting a bit. I love this phone to bit and I'm in depression over what has happened!

I'm going to Switzerland. I would have quite happily stayed on the 3.01 firmware for all time if it wasn't for the scratching incident.

I think I might just stick with it and wait until there is a JB/unlock. I'm hoping the end of this week. If not I can sell this phone when I'm back for a few days in December visiting family.

Re: Awkward situation with my iphone

I haven't tried this but:
Jailbreak Firmware 3.1 for iPhone 3G / iPhone 2G / iPod Touch

EDIT: NVM, you've got a 3GS.
