Smile iPhone 3gs data connection lead 5M at least Help guys

Hi there guys I have my iPhone 3gs and would like to connect it to my HTPC. That is on one side and where i would like to have my dock is on the other side ala bedside draw.

Now I tired connecting the iPhone 3gs using a usb extension lead and my PC came up with it saying the device was faulty or corrupt and did not recognize it. Tried on a different port and same thing. Connected using the actual data lead and it worked fine

Is there a lead out there that is about 4-5m that I can connect to the iPhone and to to the PC without any problems. PC is always on so it will be charging it and the dock will connect to the amplifier

Any help guys much appreciated thanks

At those sort of lengths you may find the voltage drop on the cable is enough to stop it working.

Try using a powered USB hub and see if that helps. Run one USB cable from the PC to the powered hub then another to the dock/phone.

Try a different lead, I use them without issues.

Thanks for the replies guys, didn't really want to use a powered hub as that was another socket to the collection
