IS my 3G Iphone faulty

Hope someone can offer some advice.
I think this has happened since the update to 3.1 but cannot be absolutely sure.
If the phone is not used for some hours I cannot make any calls, calling screen comes up showing calling number xxx
it just stays showing that but does not connect, only way I can make a call then is to turn phone off and restart.
I have also lost the ability to select call waiting on the phone, when I selct this option on the slider it moves to on then goes back to off and is greyed out so you cannot reselect until you exit this screen and go back in to it and it does the same again.
Have tried a restore etc and nothing I have tried has fixed these issues.
Can I just go into an Apple store or do you have to make an appointment.
Any advice would be much appreciated, phone is still under warranty until Dec 09 and I am on a pay monthly Non Iphone O2 contract.

Have you tried a restore, but choosing the option to set it up as a new phone, rather than from a backup?

Just in case anything in your current settings is playing silly buggers it would be worth starting from scratch.

It would also be worth trying your SIM in another phone. The call waiting feature is a network feature, in that your phone just requests the status and sends the new option so you need coverage and an active signal for it to work. If you pop your SIM in another phone and it's still flaky you could call O2 (or whatever network you're on) and ask for a new SIM.
