O2 Roaming Charges - a warning

I'm currently away on business in Rome and called O2 yesterday to get hold of a data bundle just so I could get my email automatically while I'm away. I got taken through all the different charges and I was about to go for the 50Mb bundle, but was then told that it would be applied pro-rata, so as I had 10 days before my next bill, I would get 20mb to use straight away, and the next 30mb would become active in 10 days time.

I'm only away for 4 days, so effectively I would be paying for 50mb and only get 20mb usage from it, making it just as expensive of out of bundle data roaming.

So the lesson is, if you think you are going to need a bundle, make sure you order it on your billing day, that way you know you can make the most of it on your trip.

Another thing to note is you have to give 30 days notice to cancel. So if you did sign up you would have to pay the next months worth of charges too. So your 4 days of data would have cost you £100.
