Hoe to check FirmWare Version b4 Activation on 3GS?

I want to buy an Iphone 3GS 16GB today.

If the FW is 3.1, I'll return it immediately.

What's the earliest point to check the FW Version b4 returning without going further with the Iphone?

Think you have to activate before you can do anything all you will get is the itunes screen.

If you are buying it from a O2 store you should be fine. If you are getting it from a APPLE SHOP maybe not.

But you will have to active it to find out. I brought one from O2 friday and it had 3.01. Which i jailbroke without a problem.

Hi I bought an iPhone 3GS on Sunday from the Apple Online store and it arrived with version 3.01 firmware.

I think you should be fine for a while yet before 3.1 starts appearing on shipped iPhones.

I called the Apple store in Kingston and Regent Street and got some differing opinions as to whether the phones they are selling do or dont come with 3.1 preinstalled.

As I was going down the PAYG route I had the luxury of a 14 day no quibble return policy so I went to Regent St at lunchtime today. When I asked the assistant she went away to check and confirmed it would be 3.1 but I went ahead with the purchase and on activation we found it was still, luckily for me, 3.01

However I'd guess it wont be long before all the "old" stock is cleared and new phones will definitely come with 3.1.
