as of yet I've not had to restore my v3.0.1 jailbroken & unlocked 3gs but I'm worried that if my phone crashes/freezes I will have to do a restore to v3.1 therefore losing my jailbroken and unlocked facility So how many time have you had to do a restore?

Just the once, and that was the first time I jailbroke. Still running 3.0 here!!

On my 1st 3GS maybe 3 or 4 times, down to me really, installing dumb stuff. On this 3GS never, yet lol.

Although upgrading to 3.1 does a similar thing I guess.

once when Cydia crashed on me two weeks ago as the o2 network went down.

im trying not to-go into Cydia much at the moment with the fear of doing it all again.

Every time Apple upgrade the software but only when the JB and unlock are in place

I installed something from Cydia once (can't remember what it was now) and something didn't go right and sometimes the phone wouldn't want to boot. I did a restore and all was well and not had a problem since. I think I may even have installed the same app again afterwards without any problems at all.
