iPhone 3G switching itself off randomly.

Had an iPhone 3G since last July. in August I noticed couple of specs of dirt under the glass. Apple gave me a brand new iPhone as a replacement.

2 weeks ago I jailbroke it but after getting laggy performance I decided to go back to a vanilla iPhone. I backed up the phone, then when it asked me to resotre I chose a date of a backup prior to me jailbreaking.

Now I upgraded to 3.1 firmware and every so often (happening once a day now) the screen just goes black. If I press the home button, nothing. If I flick the silent button on and off, no vibration and holding down power at the top as if I was turning it off doesn't wake it either.

I have to hold down the top power button and home at the same time for 10 seconds so the apple logo appears and it soft reboots.

Getting to be a bit of a pain now. Anyone else get this?

Am thinking I should have set up as a new phone after un-jailbreaking.

Exactly the same problem as I have, which I reported in the 3.1 thread. This has been happening to me 5 to 10 times a day and none of the suggestions have fixed it. I'm off to the genius bar tonight to see what they say.

Re: iPhone 3G switching itself off randomly.

Have read that it is a bug in 3.1 firmware so will wait for 3.1.1 rather then deleting everything off my iPhone and starting again.

What happened at your Genius bar?
