video conversion - handbrake

Hi peeps,

My first post in the iphone section – hurrah !

I have had the phone (3g - 8mb - 3.1- O2 Reconditioned) for about a week now and as a previous apple ‘hater’ I am now eating humble pie – I love it.

Well my question – I have tried loads of different programs to convert .avi files to play on the phone and have not been 100% happy with the quality.

My latest try is Handbrake.

My test file is a 700mb .avi movie

I selected the iphone & ipod touch preset and set the constent quality to 70%, no other setting changed. It took aprox 2.2 hours to encode into a .m4v file which went straight to itunes and synced with the phone without having to re-encode.

But the resulting file was 1.05gb, the quality was what I have been looking for (i.e. great) but the file size is a worry.

Is there any setting(s) in handbrake that I should change to bring the file size down but retain the same excellent quality ? (or is there some other program that I should try (tried videora and nero recode))

Thanks in advance for any help

Sharky.

p.s. Handbrake 0.9.3

You say you have tried videora.

Why didn't you like it?

I swear by it after using other programs that I paid for and caused lip sync issues.

Not really sure

i will try the same file again with it and see what happens, but my music videos always seemed ... a bit ... hard to explain but not right

Re: video conversion - handbrake

every time i have used Handbrake it has taken ages to convert and the file is always massive, not that it bothers me now. The quality of pic has always been brilliant however sometime i have had terrible lip sync.
