I want to buy Iphone 3GS. Does it come with 3.0 or 3.1?

I want to buy an Iphone 3GS 16GB Black, but I'm worried that it might to with FW 3.1 by default. There by hindering me from JailBreak and Unlock.

Does anyone knows which Firmware?

My guess is, it come with 3.0 and then asked if you want to update when you connect to itunes

My "new" 3GS came with 3.0.1

was delivered last Friday.

Be quick though as stock with 3.0 or 3.0.1 will be running dry and you'll soon start seeing 3.1 as the norm.

The below website contains links for you to download all firmwares released by apple. So if it does come with 3.1 download the file from the link and restore in itunes. The below website is full of helpful tips and hints if you get stuck.

You can no longer restore to a FW earlier than 3.1. Not yet, anyway. Apple are no longer 'signing off' the restore when iTunes connects to their server.

You can try the below, I've not tested this so proceed at own risk. Anything goes wrong a standard restore normally solves the issue

Downgrade iPhone 3.1 to 3.0.1 | Redmond Pie

I'll thinking of going to the Apple Store, Bristol today or Tomorrow, but is there a way of knowing what Firmware is on 3GS?

Because buying it & discover that FW is 3.1 renders it useless to me as I intend to Unlock it and use it with my T-Mobile sim card.

Instead, I'll leave it untill the Unlock software for 3.1 is released

Another question. How easy it is to Jailbreak & Unlock it with DevTeam software?

Is there any other better option/software that can do it? And will it've any problems after JB and Unlocking?

There is a thread dedicated to JB/Unlocking. Personally i use iClarified - Apple News and Tutorials very clear and simple instructions for an iNoob with pictures lol

I also want to order a 16gb 3GS and worried about v3.1 being installed. If it comes with v3.0.1 we will be able to JB and unlock but if a restore is required, we're screwed. At the moment with 3.1, there is not JB and unlock and uncertain will there be an unlock.

Apparently v3.1 give improved battery life which makes it a worthwhile upgrade.

Basically, I've decided to wait and see if v3.1 can be JB, unlocked and will then order it. That way, i won't be fussed which version it comes with.

My advise is to wait personally for now.

Not sure mate, as I said I've not tested it. Hopefully I will never need to. Good job I'm always too lazy to update the firmware and jailbreak again or I might of had to.

If you're not on O2 so simply must have the ability to JB and unlock, either sit tight and watch the 3.1 unlock situation... or buy second hand and ensure it's a pre-3.1 iPhone.

If you buy second hand you can then purchase Apple Care which will give you warranty cover, if that's a concern.

However... if you're on O2 and JB is a 'nice to have' but not essential, get out and buy one
