I jailbreaked and unlocked my 3GS to use an orange sim as a test.
All done and working ok etc

Problem is I tried sending it texts but nothing happened so tried calling and got dumped through to the Orange answerphone straight away.

I used the phone to dial out and it worked, I then got a load of missed call and text messages alerts. Maybe it all need to kick in and join Orange or something so tried to text it again, back to not being recieved so tried calling once again but straight through to answerphone hmmm. I then started poking around the phone settings, went into call waiting it span the in use icon around and then reported it was on so I came out then a few seconds later I got a missed call and text alert, ***!

After much mucking about it seems I can send and dial out but for incoming I half to either request something off the network or dial/text then I get incoming for a bit.

With the o2 sim I can call in/out and text in/out fine. Both give me full signal but E so I'm guessing edge, I restart and change settings during sim swop, I know unless its 3g I can't send/recieve data at the same time but it works on o2 sim and if so whats sending on the orange sim that blocks incoming? The stats say 0 data and 3g is off.

What gives?

Managed to sort it but bit of a weird one...

I noticed when I put it down on the desk there was a constant buzzing on the speakers near it like it was trying to do something constantly.

I entered the cellular data for Orange, I'd originally left it blank as I didn't want it using this as I have a tiny amount of data allocation because it's a work sim and we end up getting charged something stupid like £3 a mb, whoever signed that deal

Anyway, it promptly stopped buzzing as I quit the page, I noticed in the cellular usage it had sent 4k and received 3k, I left it for a bit and can now call send texts to it at will. There was basically something sat there trying to send data clogging up the outbound so it couldn't accept any inbound.
