iPhone 3.0.1 update

Evening all,

Just updated my iPhone (3GS) last night and today the battery has really sucked..... I mean really sucked (i thought it was a countdown!!!!).

Did the usual (made sure 3G, bluetooth etc off) but it was draining fast. I was using iPeng to control the Squeezebox but nothing major.

Hit the Internet and others having issues. Also didn't get any texts today (spoke with people and they had sent me some).

Went to check the network data settings and it had reverted back from PAYG to IDATA settings. Switched them back and texts appeared.

Hoping that this is the cause but just a heads up to others!!!

Anthony

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Doesn't it change them back to iData when you update the carrier settings on iTunes?

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Not sure Tom,

Was just a heads up to PAYG peeps.

I didn't do a restore from iTunes just an update......

One to remember the next time a pesky update comes out.

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Yep, the operator update changes your network settings from payandgo to idata. Your phone now spends its time hunting for a data connection draining the battery quick time. Seems a daft way to things to me and it probably catches out loads of people.

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Yep,

Seems silly!!! Hopefully this is sorted - had to sratch my head and have a good look at settings. The lack of texts was a hint/clue!!!

Plus the back of the phone was getting a bit hot - seemed like it was working a bit hard.

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Surely texts would come from the GSM network? Think that's just o2 being rubbish!

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

UEF,

No the minute I changed the settings from idata to payandgo - bang the messages arrived....

Good news is that after a day's use (some bluetooth/Wifi) it had over 60% left so it seems to be back to "normal".

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

I updated mine last night to 3.0.1 and it totally broke my iPhone and it got stuck in Recovery Mode, everytime I tried a restore or an update from my laptop it said "an unknown error has occured!

Tried everything but i couldnt get passed the picture of the usb cable and iTunes.

I finally moved onto another computer and restored its defaults but because I didnt have backups on that machine it wiped my iPhone competely

You don't search through the store or anywhere...

Plug in your iPhone and ensure iTunes recognises it.
On the main information screen that appears when you select your iPhone, there will be an option to check for updates. Click this.
You may find that this isn't there because it is already telling you an update is available.
This option will launch the upgrade process and take you through it step-by-step.

Re: iPhone 3.0.1 update

Sadly not. iPhone firmware 'updates' aren't updates as such, they are the total firmware downloaded and applied from scratch, as opposed to a patch or update from, say, Windows Update.

So it has to be initiated and processed through iTunes itself on your PC with your phone attached

If you plug in and find it doesn't show or you can't see it still, post a screen shot of iTunes on the iPhone info page
