Push Email

Is anyone having problems with push emails?

Im getting emails on both my yahoo and my outlook account and none are coming up until I open the mail app to be told ive got 5 new emails! Its driving me mad!!

A restore resets everything right?! Ive restored like 3 times and its not sorted it!

Re: Push Email

Same thing on my yahoo account. Every once in a while it works but not very often. It used to be pretty reliable

Err...no i restore would NEVER put everything right. a restore is a restore of your last backup. If you last back up contains a faulty setting then that setting would be restored. The only thing that puts everything back is setting up as a new phone.

as for the push, i think the only really reliable solution is Mobile Me (apples own service) so no vested interest there then.

Have a read here:
A year later: Is MobileMe finally worth $99? | Webware - CNET

Then if you want to buy check-out eBay - I bought mine from this guy:
eBay My World - deals4mac
(I have no connection other than as satisfied customer).

Re: Push Email

I am a MobileMe user and in terms of Push Mail, you actually get Push Mail. I have used MobileMe since release and Push Mail works every time for me.

I agree, eBay is the place to buy. Take a look on eBay.com and buy from an American seller who will e-mail the code to you. I have just renewed my subs and bought from eBay.com and got for £35. The code was e-mailed within minutes of paying.

Re: Push Email

I get PUSH from Yahoo for free, but not Gmail. I get round this by setting up a separate account in Yahoo and get all my mail copied to that account.
I then know i have a Gmail waiting so manually retrieve it.

It is a pain in the bum sometimes as i have to "read" the email or delete it from my secondary yahoo email account, but you get used to it, and its free !!!!

Yeh thats what im doing at the moment, gmail forwards all my mail to yahoo. The problem is yahoo is been lame and wont push my mail until I open the mail app.

I really dont want to pay for mobile me but right now it seems like the only decent option. I dont think ill use all the functions of mobileme so seems a very expensive email account!

Re: Push Email

My main email account that I've used for years is an ntlworld account but I wanted push so I created a yahoo account and had my ntl emails forwarded there. However like you I found it very flakey, often only collecting emails when opening the mail app.

Last week an app called gpush was released at 59p which pushes gmail so I created a gmail account and now forward all my ntl mail to there. They had some issues the first few days but they seem resolved now and it works perfectly. Here's the link iTunes Store

The rating is very low in the appstore becasue as I said they did have a lot of problems for a few days so the rating reflects that.

Re: Push Email

Settings - mail - fetch new data

Looks like yours is set to manual rather than timed.

It does help drain the battery though checking every few mins.

If the account can push then fetch is irrelevant.

Select your MobileMe calandar and use that on your iPhone and it syncs both ways.

Re: Push Email

Cheers usenetz, turned out the calendar on my phone was linked to my outlook account. Just using the mobileme linked one now. Loving MM at the moment!

Im on the 60 day free trial at the moment, can I use a voucher code at the end of the trial or am I gonna end up paying the £60? Ending my account will mean I loose my email address right?

if you put a code in today - the account would start in 60 days (i.e. when the trail runs out. I've been on it for ages now and the account didn't start ticking until the 22nd

Personally i love M.Me.

Re: Push Email

Just a quick mention for another service which I use and find very good.

Box.net | Simple Online Collaboration: Online File Storage, FTP Replacement, Team Workspaces ~ Free Version

In many ways very similar to MobileMe and you can open a free account getting yourself 1GB of free storage

In some ways it is better than MobileMe, for example when it lists all your photos it shows a thumbnail of the actual pic whereas MobileMe just shows a icon showing file type. Also when viewing documents it is easier to distinguish between two docs with the same name but different format, e.g. sales.doc and sales.docx, as Box shows the suffix whereas MobileMe just show the name, i.e Sales and Sales

Anyway, I reckon it's worth having as a backup for important files in case MobileMe goes down.
