New i-phone 3gs

Hi I'm a newbie here, I've just ordered the i-phone 3gs (16gb) and after reading the benefits I would like to unlock it in order to get all the apps. (It will still be used on o2)
My question is should I register it first or should unlock it. I read somewhere that it updates when first used. Whats the best software to use? I've heard about redsnow, ultrasnow and purple thingy

Thanks

Re: New i-phone 3gs

Most people go with Redsnow to jailbreak. Ultrasnow is just to unlock for other networks so you won't need that

The latest update is 3.0.1 which can still be jailbroken without a problem so update if you fancy it. Registration won't really make any difference. iClarified - Apple News and Tutorials has loads of tutorials on what to do.

Re: New i-phone 3gs

Once I've used redsnow will all the apps that I would normaly have to pay for be on the phone or do I have to download them?
Also some tutorials say if I update my i-phone at a later stage, I will have to jailbreak it again and some so I will not.
Basicaly all I want is to be able to get the apps that I would normaly have to pay for and customise my i-phone
Thanks

Re: New i-phone 3gs

Sorry, not allowed to discuss not paying for apps around here. You can talk about apps available in Cydia (most of which are free anyway).

As for the updates....yes, if you update the firmware through iTunes in the future you will have to jailbreak again. ALWAYS check there is a new jailbreak available before doing any update through iTunes

The contacts are on the simm but I can't view them on the phone. When I put the simm in another phone the contacts are there.

I followed this guide to jailbreak it but I can't get no signal or use the phone to make calls, basically its lost the carrier o2

did you then break it using ultrasnow?

i think if you want to use a different sim you go redsnOw and then ultrasnow to-do the sim unlock

info here mate -
Dev-Team Blog - Ultra's Now!

then you need to add the carrier settings which using a quick search on here your find the info

Ok, I don't need to unlock it just jailbreak as I want to use o2. I've just found the "import simm contacts" so thats not a problem any more its just that I can't get my o2 carrier or any other network to work on it
