american iPhone in UK

Is this possible?

Could I buy an iPhone in America and unlock it and use it with my Orange pay monthly sim?

Without paying the AT&T contract.

Re: american iPhone in UK

Possible if you pay $599 for 16GB 3GS and purchase the iPhone as outright as a 'gift' hence without a contract.

Re: american iPhone in UK

So it wouldn't be possible to get a $99 one with AT&T and just not activating it?

Re: american iPhone in UK

Not if you dont live in the US, i.e your not a US resident and citizen, in which case they would carry out a credit search/check as you would with a UK contract so ultimatly.............NO!.

Re: american iPhone in UK

if you know an American you can do it. My mate has one, My first 1g was american. Do a search and find the posts from just over a year ago when i borked it.

the problem with having an American phone is that you cant restore it in iTunes unless its unlocked because its expecting an AT&T sim card. So you have it restore, unlock, restore again which is a bit of ball ache.

Please help!

Hi all,
I need help please, I am currently trying to get a American iPhone 3G over to the uk. I have asked a friend who lives in America to go into a apple store but they said that she can't and needs to be on AT&T. So I am asking you weather she will be able to buy a iPhone 3G but not be on a AT&T and if so, what does she need to say to the man in the apple store to be able to get a iPhone 3G but not activated in America so I don't have to be on contract.
Thank you, please help if you can!

Did you even read the thread?

You cant buy an iPhone in the states without an AT&T contract

There is no PAYG iPhone in the States

It CANNOT be unlocked for use in the UK without Jailbreaking which will be tethered because of the latest bootrom

Seriously, dont bother you are getting yourself into a world of pain just buy a PAYG UK version which you can have unlocked if you want by O2.
