Hi,

I have family going out to America soon, and was wondering if i could get this phone contract free over there and for what price?

I'm sure i read it only cost a couple of hundred dollars from the apple store, sim free,

Could i then bring it back to the UK and jailbreak it to work over here?

Im sure ive read that you can't, I think you have to buy them with a contract in the USA.
But I could be wrong!.

The Iphone is available where I am in Russia sim free but its more expensive. Also when I visited the Apple store in London loads of Japanesse tourists buy them often upto 10 at a time. The states will be cheaper than here but I suspect we are one of the cheapest places worlwide. They can be readily made sim free but is it really worth the hassle still way too expensive

Just had a nosey on the apple site and in the small print, as a gift, the 16 gig is $599 which at current exchange rate is about £365 compared to £440 over here.

Hmmm.

I may just wait for my upgrade!
