16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

as the title says, what difference does the extra memory make and do you think it's worth almost £100 extra?

Re: 16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

Probably only you can answer that mate as you know how much stuff you'll want to put on

As a very basic rule, i'd say if you think you're going to be mainly a moderate music and app user, save yourself the £100 but if you love films, vids etc, aswell as the above, go for the 32

I've just gone for the 32 for exactly the latter reason. I don't know how sound my logic is, but I suspect I'll reach a point where 16 is maxed out too quick and I wished i'd gone bigger

Hope that helps.

Re: 16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

Ultimately, it's a phone, something you carry around everywhere, likely to get the occasional knock, drop, bang and not the most reliable piece of kit ever made, I’m in the 16gb boat as i cant see it lasting for years and years, so inevitably will need replacing in a year or two, when larger sizes may be cheaper and more have functionality

If I were buying a ipod touch, something that would be docked and go out with me occasionally than larger the better no question about it

The £100 saving would go a long way towards an ipod classic with 120gb storage!!

Would it be too obvious to say... it let's you store more on it?

How big is your music library? Do you intend on buying Sat Nav software for it? Will you be buying Applications from the App Store? Games? Pictures? Movies?

Work out what you'll use it for and how big your media collection is and that should give you your answer.

Let's work it out based on a 16GB iPhone then...

12GB of Music leaves 4GB free.
Apps and games can easily and quickly get to over 1GB. Conservative math here though, so now you have 3GB free.
A few movies, music videos, funny clips etc.. another 0.5GB... 2.5GB free

What about pictures? Say another 0.5GB? Leaves you 2GB free. Or does it? 16GB is actually closer to 15GB due to the stupid and inconsistent way capacities are calculated, even moreso after formatting.

These are conservative figures, movies can quickly add up for instance, as can pictures. Apps and Games, especially intensive games like Need for Speed and others like it can be pretty big too. So you may find your remaining space is quickly eaten up.

So you may be fine with a 16GB, depending on your usage. If you're confident you wont go over the sort of figures I've worked this out on then superb. Or if you're happy to not have everything from your media collection on it, no problem.

Just remember if you ever change your mind about Sat Nav or your music collection grows over time, you've no space to play with.

Ultimately cost is the deciding factor. If you can afford to buy the 32GB then it's better to have the space and not need it, than need it and not have it. But if you are going to struggle to find the money, it's a moot point.

Re: 16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

Do you need to have all 12GB of music with you all the time?

My music library ( that I have bothered to import to iTunes ) is 10GB

On my phone I have 4GB of music (1.5GB of which is my kids music)

If you would die if you couldnt listen to a particular song at a particular time then go for the 32GB ...just in case.

Could I fill the 32GB? Definitely? Would I listen/watch half the stuff on it? Probably not.I had the 8GB previously and always had a minimum of 1GB free space.

Re: 16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

Hmmm, I'm in a similar position to the OP, not sure whether to whack the extra £100 on my overdraft and get the 32Gb, as someone has previously posted, it is better to have the space and not need it than to run out of space and then have to wait 2yrs for the contract to run out

Re: 16gb or 32gb worth an extra £100?

i say go for the 32g, it's what i am planning..i have 24gig of music on my 30g video at the moment, and add apps and that onto it..

but one thing to keep in mind..how tough are you on phones? if you go through them pretty quickly, might be better stay cheaper..i have my phone about 2 and a half years, so for me the 32g is a no brainer..if i was tough on phones and they were giving up every 6 months i think i'd get the 16g and live with not having everything i wanted

On a side note, given the way memory on devices is expanding week on week, I'd say that if you were intending to resell it, a 32gb would probably be more appealing in 18 months time (or whatever)?
