Aargh Network Lost Alert on 3 Driving Me Bonkers!

Hi, I just bought a brand new iPhone 3GS and after successfully unlocking it last week it has been working fine on the 3 network but in the past couple of days my friends have said that when they call me they just get my answer phone all the time although texts seems to work fine. I am losing the network signal constantly now and a message comes up saying; 'NETWORK LOST... your selected network is no longer available, you can choose a different network setting' - I have my phone network setting set to 'Automatic' mode.
I am not sure if this is a problem with 3's network or my (expensive) new iPhone throwing a wobbler because it's unlocked and broken, anyone had similar problems, got a fix or can just put my mind at ease??

cheers, David

Re: Aargh Network Lost Alert on 3 Driving Me Bonkers!

Hi David,

My first thoughts are what software did you use to jailbreak and unlock?

I'm also running my 3GS on Three, but not suffering these problems you speak of. I did my jailbreak with Purp1e Ra1n, and unlock with Purp1e sn0w from geohot.

My second thought is that Three are currently doing a lot of work on their network, and it might just be that you are in an area this is taking place. I know their customer services are hard to get any consistent sense out of, but it might be worth a shot - maybe try calling up as a "potential new customer"

As well as increasing their HSDPA coverage, they also seem to be turning off the 2G signal from Orange in certain areas - this could be affecting you.

Re: Aargh Network Lost Alert on 3 Driving Me Bonkers!

Hi DannStarr, I used Redsn0w 0.8 to jailbreak and Ultrsn0w to unlock, my phone has settled down considerably since Sunday and maybe Three carrying out work on their network was the problem? I will (obviously) keep an eye on what happens with my phone and hope I don't get anymore dropout.

Do you receive data (internet) from Three and if so how is the download speed for you, I had a Nokia N95 before the iPhone and data transfer with that on wi-fi (I don't have a Internet add on yet) was very flaky and the phone was always locking up or losing the signal... I, like many others, always thought it was due to Three not wanting me to use a free wi-fi connection but rather connect through them and thereby doing something to lock up the web browser. I plan to get an internet add on when my contract is up for renewal next month (staying with 3 as rest of family and friends on it) and wondered if internet on the iPhone would be better.

cheers, David.

Re: Aargh Network Lost Alert on 3 Driving Me Bonkers!

I got my iPhone from o2 on payg, then took out the £10 30 day sim only plan with three I also added the £5 Internet max. When surfing in a 2g area I find that about 50% of the time data is faster than o2 when it said 3g!

When I'm in a three 3g area data is lovely, no speed issues, and no more worrying about "could not activate cellular data network" and "server has stopped responding" problems that I had with o2.

When on WiFi speed is equal to, if not better than you would expect on a normal laptop or desktop pc.

I tether mine to my laptop frequently as I do not currently have a landline, and thus no broadband, this also works well.

So you're effectively on a £15/month plan with unlimited internet? how many phone minutes and texts do you get with that... sounds like a good deal for me too having now bought the iPhone.

cheers, David.

Yep £15 a month "unlimited" web - it actually gives 1gb. With that I get 100 mins and unlimited texts, unlimited calls to other three mobiles, and ofcourse skype calls, with which a little hack will actually let u do over your 3g connection

Cool... let me know what the hack is as Skype is useful with relatives living in USA.

cheers, David.

In cydia download an app called 3g unrestrictor. It tricks your phone in to thinking it is connected to wifi rather than your phones data. When you open skype it says it only works on un hacked versions, but you can ignor that
