Need your iBSS and iBEC files?

There is a tool you can use to get both files without having to have speed of light reactions, difrnt » Blog Archive » ECID Grabber & iBEC and iBSS Grabber its the iBEC and iBSS Grabber that should be downloaded.

1. Open iBEC and iBSS Grabber
2. Select Destination you want to save the files to
3. Click on Start Watching
4. While connected to itunes put the phone in DFU mode (hold power button and home button for 10sec. then release power button and keep holding home button until itunes finds the iphone if you have done this right the screen will stay black.)
5. Restore firmware 3.0
6. Wait until restore complete.
7. Check folder you saved you iBEC and iBSS files to (Per45C --- Firmware ---DFU)
8. Job done

Thanks to Madzo2006 for the above . To the mods, I am posting this sepreate thread because I think its a great tip and a real timesaver. It's kind of buried in the 3GS Jailbreak thread, but of course feel free to delete if you think thats best.

I did the above and can I just say the 3 files it saved in my selected location all start with per then some numbers then end .tmp

Hope that sounds right.

It saves three folders :

Per9531.tmp
PerBC71.tmp
PerFF1C.tmp

The Per9531 folder has the iBSS / iBECn88ap.RELEASE.dfu files in ...103kb each

I have tried all day to get these files using iclarified guide i am only managing to get the iBEC and not the iBSS

I have already got my ECID cert from purplerain, this is only 1kb and is named purplera1nyday_(serial no)

I have tried to jailbreak with redsnow but the phone wouldnt restart, I must have done a hundred restores today will this matter and should i try the grabber mentioned in this post

I think the folders are named different for everyone.

Two of mine (1st and last of 3) have a file each named iBECn88ap.RELEASE. both 103k I believe. They are both the same. no sign of an ibss file. Or is this the same? the middle file doesn't even have a dfu folder within.

In the first folder I have restore.plist, then another folder Firmware, inside there are two folders,all_flash and dfu . In the dfu folder is two files ie

iBEC.n88ap.Release.dfu and iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu , both files are 103kb.

In the next folder (16.8MB)I have restore.plist ,kernelcache.release.sXXXXX ,xx=xxxx-xxx.dmg and a folder, Firmware.Inside that folder are two more folders, all_flash and dfu. In the dfu folder is iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu

In the last folder(273MB) I have restore.plist ,kernelcache.release.sXXXXX ,xx=xxxx-xxx.dmg and a folder, Firmware.Inside that is another folder, all_flash, with more folders and files inside .

Everything is the same for me except the iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu file which I don't have. I used the method above.

Ideas?

If I re-do it I won't be able to restore to 3.0 now due to this 3.01 out right?

Looking on that site there are a couple of people saying it only grabbed the iBEC files . Got both for me first time.

My screen doesn't stay black. The apple symbol comes on and so does an image of a usb calble. itunes then tells me its found an iphone in recovery mode. Is this right?

Just did it again with the screen staying black. Like an idiot I didn't start the grabber watching! I remembered and started before hitting restore in i tunes. Will that be ok or did I need to start it before I put it in dfu mode? lease dont tell me I gotta do it all again!

EDIT: IGNORE Just checked whijlst its restoring and it's got both files now. just need to wait for it to complete.

I don't think I put it in DFU mode the other time.

Looks like we may have done it wrong. the 1st time I did it I don't think I put the phone into dfu mode properly. trying it again now.

Guys, please excuse my ignorance but what are iBSS, iBEC and ECID? I know these are related to jailbreaking but what precisely are they used for?

If I have the ECID file, do I still need these 2 files (don't really want to restore and install everything again) ?

Personally, the plan as far I am concerned is : I chose to update to 3,0.1 therefore I thought I may as well get the files. If not updating to 3.0.1 , but waiting for 3.1 I would get the required folders at that time.

When you went to restore with the iphone conected to itunes did you use the firmware from iclarified and did you press shift + restore, did you then have to restore again once you got these files to jailbreak, I have tried but still no luck

What I did was :

1)Put phone in DFU mode, got my iBSS and iBEC files .
2)Then restored to 3.0
3)Then I updated to 3.0.1
4)Then I jailbroke with redsnow , using a copy of my 3.0 firmware from my iTunes folder(shift+restore).

I wasnt sure if I could have skipped step 2 and gone straight to 3.0.1 but for the sake of 15 minutes I followed the steps in the post you quoted.

What is it you cannot do? You have your files?

I have tried using iclarified guide but never got the iBSS file. I have the ECID through purplera1n. When i started the grabber program and it said watching, i wasn't sure at what point to put it into recovery mode and what procedure to follow with this program.

I am at work now so i will have to have a go tonight when i get home so in will start grabber then put into recovery mode as its restoring the grabber program must pick up these files (hopefully)

As far as I know, when you start monitoring with the grabber it will watch the temp folder and any changes made it will "grab" them .

So pretty much just set it to start watching, then just forget about it and check it after you have restored ( I had the folder where I was going to save the files open anway so I could see the files go in)

Finally i have managed to do it, i kept missing the first temp file when using the iclarified method, using the Grabber software it captured the first file and this has both ibec and iBSS files in the firmware dfu folder. if i copy both the files and save them in another folder i should be able to delete all temp files or should i hang on to them

You have been a great help and once again thanks for your help and advice
