Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

Just been thinking that my existing iphone 18 month contract is up in December.

It appears to be about £184 for an iphone3gs at 02 on another 18-month contract as i am on now.

Surely i would get that back for my existing boxed iphone in December (with xmas round the corner) on ebay, therefore i am no worse off financially and i have a new iphone 3gs, or am i missing something?

Assuming it's a 3G 16Gb, I don't see why not!

If you can afford the upfront cost it's the same price to get a 3GS on PAYG for £530 and o2 SIMplicity for £20 a month, then sell it up for the next model whenever you want.

Im not quite sure i could find £530 for a PAYG phone. That is an unreal upfront price for a mobile!!!!!!

Yeah :/

It's what I did, but it was helped by some toerag having pickpocketed my 3G a few weeks before. I claimed on the insurance and they gave me £340 for it, and I used that on a 3GS. Wouldn't have contemplated it otherwise!

Re: Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

It is a ridiculous amount of money for a mobile. I paid it though . You are in a better position than me though, because I caved in and let my daughter have my 3g rather than selling it.
You could get around £300(GOING BY PRICES ON HERE).The 3GS 16gb costs £440 ON payg. If you do get the £300 its cheaper than paying the £187 for the contract AND assuming a new iPhone is released next Jun/Jul you will be able to upgrade

My contract is also up in december, unfortunately for me the Mrs desperatly wants an iPhone so she'll be having my current 3G, i'll probably upgrade to a 3GS asap and then start saving for the inevitable new model and buy it out right on PAYG.

Re: Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

I dropped my 16GB 3G and it was unrepairable so phone insurance company gave me £400 to put towards a new phone. Picked up a 16GB 3GS PAYG for £440 and only have 5 month left on my contract. I'll drop down on to the £20 simplicity contract after that so that leaves me free to upgrade to next years iPhone.

I wouldn't of bothered upgrading to the 3GS if my old 3G hadn't broken, however having got one I feel it is a lot better than my old 3G. Everything seems so much quicker, i.e loading games, SMS etc. and I like the little extra things it can do like uploading videos straight to youtube and facebook.

Re: Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

Is there to be a new i phone next year/ Hopefully as that will leave the current 3gs open to a discount from work, they will only give it on the 8gb 3g at the moment.
Mike.

Re: Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

I went from the 2G to the 32gb 3GS and am very happy. I had a go yesterday on a 3g and was amazed at how slow it was compared to the 3GS. It was very noticable.

i say do it

D

Re: Is Upgrading to an iphone 3Gs a no-brainer?

My contract with 02 is up in a couple of weeks. I've never had an Iphone and I cant decide if I should;

a) wait until the next model is released and go on simplicity with my current phone (SE C905)
b) buy a second hand 3g and go on simplicity
c) buy a payg 3gs and go on simplicity
d) get a 3gs on a 18 month contract

I'm leaning towards either a or c anyone got any suggestions.

I would go C, then if a new iPhone is announced next year simply sell to fund the new one
