I PHone WiFi

Am I missing something here.... I can't get the Wife's new 3G I Phone to see any of my 3 home WiFi Networks (2 x 2.4ghz & 1 x 5.0 ghz). Myt N95 gets both the 2.4 ones.
I have gone into Settings -> WiFi (which says "Not Connected") and when I choose "Other" there are no available networks.
Is there any other way to switch on the phone's WiFi? Is there any on screen display telling me what network I am using. The phone is a PAYG so I turned of 3G (she won't be using it as a real phone it is just a fashion accesory).

Any help appreciated.

Re: I PHone WiFi

Do you get any pop up message asking which network to join when starting Safari?

You'd then tap on the one you want to use, tap in the security code and it'll auto connect in future.

Re: I PHone WiFi

In the settings screen you are talking about there IS a slider switch to turn WiFi on or off that you may have missed?

Other than that I'm not sure

Re: I PHone WiFi

I'm pretty sure that slider is greyed out or not there until you have established a connection.

Edit:
Hmmm...on looking around on the net, the slider will be there and on sliding to on should prompt the connection options.

Have you tried resetting Network Settings?

Re: I PHone WiFi

Now I am in work this morning so no WiFi in the area. But last night I downloaded WiFiTrak from the App store. Now I could not see any activity on my Lan or the ADSL Modem. When I launched the App it told me there were no WiFi networks available.
On the top left of the screen there is the signal strength indicator - then O2.ie the a (capital) E. I can only assume I am connecting on the edge network.
On the settings screen it is (and was last night) showing "Not Connected" and when I go into WiFi Networks "WiFi" is switched on as is "Ask to Join Networks" If I select "Other" there are no other networks and I should at least get the option to join my second WiFi network!

How do I reset "Network Settings"? I would have thought that the WiFi receiver would still pick up the Networks even if I did not connect to them. Also Can I set a preference of connection. As I said her phone is on PAYG and I would prefer she used my home WiFi rather than paying 1 euro per day just to download her e-mails.

Re: I PHone WiFi

You'll know how you are connected as you'll see this
instead of '3G' or 'E'.

To reset Network Settings:

Settings
General
Reset (scroll down to bottom)
Reset Network Settings

If you are using a diff carrier to O2 be sure to have the relevant internet/mms settings to hand.

That's what I needed! -^ Thanks.

Do you know if anyone here on the forum has had an I-Phone which has had a faulty WiFi receiver in there phone? I am wondering if it is this what is at fault as there appears to be no available WiFi networks when I do a scan!

Re: I PHone WiFi

It's possible that the wifi is faulty on the handset, I'd try to connect to the same network with another iPhone (a friend's possibly).

Before trying to get it replaced try a restore in iTunes.
You'll be asked to do that anyway and it may well fix the prob for you.

Mine was taken back to the O2 shop on Thursday for that very problem, I'd read that some phones were having problems caused by heat damaging the WiFi reciever. As soon as the guy in the shop tried it it worked! As soon as he handed it back to me it had gone off. After he had spoken to his manager and they'd tried resetting the network settings it was decided that it would be sent away for a repair. I'd already told him it hadn't worked for a while and that I'd tried restoring it through iTunes on numerous occasions.
