I'd guess it's already been fixed in 3?

Re: security flaw

There is another SMS-based one, but tbh, its not really anything to get worked up about.

Re: security flaw

On the free Metro paper it claims:
  • Hacking threat to every iPhone
  • Criminal could take control of every iPhone in thw world via text messages.
  • All they would have to do is send a string of text messages containing just one square character
Not a mention of any other phone. But that Apple had been informed 2 weeks ago and yet there's no patch yet.

Hmm, could this be Apple trying to release a jailbreak killer by getting everyone to panic upgrade!

Apple wouldn't release a patch two weeks ago no matter how serious it was. The business of getting iphones upgraded around the world takes time and effort - they'll want to make sure that this is handled in 3.1 as much as any UI bugs are - making sure that ALL known issues are part of the new 300mb firmware file, not some.

I think most of us here know that but the point the scaremongering journalist was making to the masses was that Apple had not bothered to do anything for such a 'serious' security issue - even after a whole 2 weeks!!

What I'm saying is that it would probably end up in 3.1 due to the levels of effort involved in rolling out any sort of patch. Its not like WindowsUpdate where they can just roll it into next tuesday's 1mb updates

Wonder if that'll be 3.1 then - has been in beta for some time, would make sense for them to push it through now.

Remember still to only update when it's safe, jailbreakers. Keep an eye on Dev-Team Blog
