Bolt on and MMS

ok, so my mate got his bill this month and has been charged for MMS, he has the unlimited text bolt on (mms uses x4 sms) but yet has been charged for his mms. He emailed O2 and got the response below! Now i have the unlimited text bolt on and send my fair share of mms's to my mum of little one, but have never been charged extra for them, weird!

thoughts?.....

Good Evening Mark

Thanks for emailing us about the charges for sending media messages.

The Unlimited text messages Bolt On can't be used for sending media messages, but your 500 free text messages can be.

I'm sorry if you thought that the Unlimited text messages Bolt On can be used for sending media messages. One media message sent uses four free text messages. You would appreciate that with the Unlimited text messages Bolt On, you can't have a 1:4 ratio, which would mean unlimited media messages.

You were correctly charged for sending media messages after using up your 500 free text messages.

I hope I've explained this clearly to you.

Re: Bolt on and MMS

Thoughts? He sends loads more messages than you do using up his first 500 meaning he then gets charged for MMS. You don't use 500 therefore you don't get charged. Not sure what else there is to think

Re: Bolt on and MMS

think the point is, mms uses x4 sms's, therefore if he has unlimited bolt on for sms's, whether he is sending 900 sms's as sms's, or 500 sms's and 100 mms's (which is 100 x 4 sms) what can be the arguement?!!

unlimited bolt on is what it is - 'unlimited' (although im sure its capped at about 1500 or summat in the small print) so if the content is standard sms or x4 sms via an mms, what should it matter!!?

Re: Bolt on and MMS

Yeah, it almost exposes a flaw in their plan. Surely if you could sent 4000 SMSs, 1000 equivalent MMSs would be OK.

Still who uses MMS these days (and increasingly less, SMS :-/ ?)

Re: Bolt on and MMS

But they're saying unlimited text messages and MMS isn't a text message. They charge it out at the cost of 4 text messages but it's not really the same thing. So what they're saying is that although you get unlimited text messages, you can't have unlimited MMS so they have to cap it off somewhere and they've chosen 500. I do agree that if this isn't clearly stated in the T&C's (which I've not read) then it's pretty unfair as most would assume you can just send MMS's all the time.

Re: Bolt on and MMS

i think thats where they need to define it then, coz stating 1xmms is 4xsms is just asking for trouble and is misleading, gonna try and dig out the t&c and have a look.

Re: Bolt on and MMS

Aye, it is misleading. My Orange contract still charges MMS separately from SMS and this is what most operators used to do. Lots now cost MMS as 4xSMS so people tend to forget that it works differently and should be costed as a separate item. However that is the operators fault really.
