Internet on original Iphone

Was under the impression the original Iphone could access the internet all be it slowly - in fact I swear it must be able to do it as when I lost internet connection once I used it to access this very site

However just gone to try it at work and nothing

I assume that I need to change some settings but not sure

Well it can work, or putting a web browser on it would be quite silly.For the settings, I guess whether its PAYG or contract is going to make a difference.

get message saying

could not activate cellular data network
you are not subscribed to a cellular data service

Now im with O2
I pay monthly
and i have the unlimited web browising bolt on

I know at one point it would access the net but since I stopped using it for a few months and updated the firmware etc it seems to have stopped

Try this :

Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network

APN : idata.o2.co.uk
Username : vertigo
Password : password

Before that you could try just clicking reset settings at the bottom of the above page.

Actually after googling it appears that the APN has to be

for monthly = mobile.o2.co.uk

for PAYG = payandgo.o2.co.uk

Username and password do not change.

got it working with apn of wap.02.co.uk

is there any benefit etc of using one of the other

want to ensure I am using best possible settings that ensures my internet useage on the phone forms part of my bolt on

also can anyone recommend a nice way of keeping the original iphone scratch free

If you are on the old 2g iPhone the you need to have WAP.O2.co.uk as your APN because it doesnt support 3G which I think Mobile.O2.co.uk is only for 3G.
