Push email

I think I already know the answer to this but... heres hoping im wrong!!

Up until now ive been using my uni email on my phone and push works so each time I get an email I get a nice little alert and a 1 appearing above my mail icon! Now though ive graduated and my email is going to expire!

Ive made myself a googlemail account and whilst I know I can get push alerts via prowl this is a problem as I do not leave my laptop on all day.

Is googlemail push not around? I want alerts when I get a new email dammit!

Cheers.
