HSDPA Icon on iPhone

How can you tell if you are getting a HSDPA connection?

When connected to 3G, I get a 3G icon on the top left hand corner of my iPhone 3GS.

When connected to Wi-Fi I get the Wi-Fi icon on screen.

What does the HSDPA icon look like? I have heard about EDGE. What is EDGE?

Sorry if these questions are a bit basic

Re: HSDPA Icon on iPhone

I think you just get the 3g logo when you have an hsdpa connection so you'll never know when you have one.
Edge is just another mobile data technology, nowhere near as good as a decent 3g connection and i believe it has less coverage too

Hi, below is a guide to what EDGE is

The only icons the phone shows are a circle for GPRS, E for Edge and 3G for mobile data types plus the wireless icon aswell

EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) or EGPRS provides data transfer rates significantly faster than GPRS or HSCSD. EDGE increases the speed of each timeslot to 48 kbps and allows the use of up to 8 timeslots, giving a maximum data transfer rate of 384 kbps. In places where an EDGE network is not available, GPRS will automatically be used instead. EDGE offers the best that can be achieved with a 2.5G network, and will eventually be replaced by 3G.
