Why do we have ot pay for push email?

I mean, I know it's not really mainstream yet, but why aren't most email systems able to push email? There's no hardware costs involved is there? Just seems strange to me that we can do all sorts with our webspace and servers these days but there isn't a free means of having our own push email.

Use yahoo then you don't have too I set my old hotmail account up to forward mail to my yahoo address which then pushes to my iPhone. I mainly only use the yahoo one now but there's still a few things that use the hotmail address.

Re: Why do we have ot pay for push email?

But I use my own domain for all of my mail so don't really want to use yahoo, gnail, etc. I know there are alternatives, but I'm just wondering why it's nit more readily available. My hosting uses cPanel with loads os of options, features and controls. How hard would it be to incorporate some kush email in to that?
