Not sure where to go....

Morning All,

Ok, I am sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, I have looked but havent found a solid answer, so here goes..

I have purchased a brand new iPhone 3G (not 3GS) from o2. I already have an o2 contract, and puchased this on a different card. Nothing was said.

Now as I already have a contract, I do not want to sign up for an iPhone one. I have not even switched it on yet, just taken it out the box.

My question is, will it work right out the box with my sim inserted, or do I have to Jailbreak it?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

Did you buy your iPhone on Pay as You Go? If so then yes your existing O2 sim card will work.

hi people, it is not a payg iPhone its a contract one. I thought it might be like the 2G iPhone where you could buy it on contract and jailbreak it. At least thats what i did with my 2G

Re: Not sure where to go....

no your contract is started in the store, so you will have signed an 18/24 month contract.

Unless you paid hundreds of pounds up front for your iphone then you have already have signed up to a new iphone contract.

Hi MrKing,

Unless you paid for your iPhone, namely handed over the best part of £600 in cash or credit/debit card payments, then you have a brand new O2 iPhone, for the sole use on the O2 Network, and will have been signed-up to either an 18 month or 24 month contract of some kind. You should have been given some paperwork that states exactly what tariff you are on.

If you want your iPhone to work on any other network, you will have to get it Unlocked (which is not the same as being Jailbroken)! This can be done yourself, with bits of software over the Net, depending on how competent you feel about doing it, or you can get it done in many independant mobile phone places around the UK, for about £30-£40. However, if you get good O2 reception in your area, it would be silly of you to Unlock it at this time, otherwise you're paying O2 at least £45 a month, for the next 18-24 months, and for no reason, whilst also having to pay money to use the iPhone on another network.

Don't forget to Port your current mobile number over to O2, unless you are happy to have an all-new mobile number!
