I know you can keep your same mobile number when buying the new iphone,you have to get PAC code from your network but do you have to do this at the same time as purchasing your iPhone or can it be done anytime?thanks

You have 30 days after buying the phone to change the number over via PAC code.

That's not quite true, you have 30 days to use your PAC code.

The procedure is this:-

1) Ring your current provided for a PAC code, you'll have 30 days after it's issued to use it.
2) Get an iPhone, when you activate it (I'm hazy on the procedure these days), hand over the PAC code.
3) Your number will be ported within a week or so.
4) Jobs a goodun

When I got my iPhone, I'd had the PAC code for about a week so I was prepared to go.

Actually if we're being picky, your both right.

You have 30 days from starting a contract with o2 to port a number in to them

And

You PAC code only lasts 30 so you have to use it before it expires.
