Help! New iPhone...Signal issues

Hi all,

Got myself a 32gb iPhone 3GS

Using my old O2 sim in it and seem to have an issue.

My signal keeps dropping yet my old phone with the new PAYG sim has full signal, so there can't be a problem with 02.

Any advice?

Doesn't look like I'm getting 3G either - can't see it in the top corner....just a round circle. How do I tell if the SIM is 3G enabled?

try the new sim in iphone. if its a really old sim, that could be the problem. if so o2 will replace.

yep my sim is 2 years old and worked but the person in the shop phoned up O" to make sure it was a 3g sim which it was and said i could still use it .

your sim card might not be a 3g version and might need a new one but o2will sort you out with that for free

I've just moved from a 2G to a 3G.

I'm on Simplicity and have been for about 2 1/2 years, so I'm presuming my sim was not a 3G one, so I rang O2 in advance, explained that I was moving to a 3G and asked them for a 3G sim (fair play, this was at 4pm and it arrived the next day!)

I duly stuck the 3G sim in the iPhone only to be greeted with "No Signal", yet when I put my old Simplicity sim in it picks up 3G straight away.

I'm presuming that it simply was 3G enabled from when I got it all that time ago, not no great issues really!

Take the SIM out and have a look at the number on the back, if it's a 3G SIM the last 4 numbers will be 3Gxx

Re: Help! New iPhone...Signal issues

Hi guys,

Thanks for this. I took the dogs for a walk earlier (first time out) and got 3G signal, so my SIM is 3G. Signal kept dropping though.

I've checked the other sim and also lose signal.

I've been on a bus for 10mins now and not lost 3G signal once. What do you reckon I should do? How long do I have to get a new replacement? Got it through CPW.

Re: Help! New iPhone...Signal issues

3g signal on 02 is'nt that great really, i hardly get any 3g signal indoors, as soon as i step outside though then i get a signal. Also if i put it on a window ledge then i get a signal as well.

Problem is the 3g repeaters transmit lower power than the 2g repeaters. also they don't cover the same area as a 2g one. So you need more 3g repeaters to cover the same area as you would 2g ones.

Was thinking about going over to the 3 network because of this ?
