3gs - slow wifi?

I still have my 3g and downloaded the speedtest.net app to compare wifi speeds. I used the same servers, tested the 3gs first and then the 3g. The 3gs was getting downstream of about 100kbps (and 400kbps upload), whereas the 3g would get 4000kbps downstream! on several different servers! despite this, web browsing the 3gs still displays pages quicker, but I was just wondering why the speed test was so much slower for the 3gs everytime? Thanks

edit: 3g seems to download and install aps a little faster too

Re: 3gs - slow wifi?

Just done a quick speed test on my 3GS and had 9.23Mbps download and 0.32Mbps upload.

On my 3G I used to get around 4.82Mbps download and roughly same upload.

I see a huge difference between both with 3GS being the quickest

Re: 3gs - slow wifi?

cool, here's my results. These were both done on the manchester server (the closest one to me), did the 3G first then the 3GS straight after

3G

3GS ( distinguishable as there's battery percentage in corner)

see what i mean? this isn't a one off occurence either, it happens on every attempted speed test

Re: 3gs - slow wifi?

Wi-fi speeds shouldn't really differ much between the 3G and the 3GS

Re: 3gs - slow wifi?

Guys,

My first couple of test with the default server were poor. I then selected London and wham.... back to normal 9meg speed.

Wifi connection to my home network has been superfast and very steady (touch wood!).

Re: 3gs - slow wifi?

same, by selecting the london server (even though i'm in birmingham and have two 'closer' servers) i get 8.95mbps on my 10mbps internet connection which is rather good (i.e 9164 kbps). I therefore thought hmm maybe the manchester server is just slow, but that still doesn't explain why the 3G was getting super high speeds there whilst the 3GS did not strange
