hi all i just bought a 3gs iphone and was woundering what settings you are all using for the screen brightness as it seems a littile dull or is it me ?

can anyone help on the best settings for this

I use the auto brightness, which seems to work pretty well.

just seems abit duller thatn my first gen ipod touch thats all i can not remember what settings i had for this.

in light room would the screen go brighter and in a dark room dimmer

Yes, thats how it works, only really a problem for me in direct sunlight

Try an anti-glare screen-protector as well

I got my 3gs today, but I still have my 3G. I also thought the 3gs screen was a bit dim

I now have them side by side, both have auto brightness on and the brightness bar is in the exact same place on both phones (roughly in the middle, i.e the default setting) Despite this, the 3G is noticeably brighter then the 3gs

Its part of the way they have made the battery last longer on the S, although I'm not really sure it last any longer than my wife's 3g

can you up the level of brightness and leave it on auto as well so it will give you thta littile more punch ?

Yes, whack the brightness all the way up turn off auto brightness , then turn it back on.
You will see a subtle change in brightness.
Auto helps save battery.

I have left mine on Auto Brightness but have upped it a little and it looks better imo for it.
