"Sent from my iPhone" - why?

Ok, so getting used to my first iPhone, and wondering why it puts "Sent from my iPhone" on the bottom of emails? Is it meant to be a bragging statement? Or an excuse as to why spelling might not be up to scratch? Just not sure why it exists.

It's just the preset signature. Blackberrys do it too. Well, they obviously don't say iPhone but you know what I mean Change or delete it in the settings.

It advertising, generating brand recongition, bragging, whatever. Blackberrys do the same.

It was more a query of Apples thinking rather than how to get rid of it. The marketing answer does seem to be somewhat logical. But still, you dont get Dell putting such things on emails.

Bit of a poor comparison. Dell produce PC hardware, Apple produce solutions!

OMG, i'm turning into a fan-boy and i've only had the iPhone for a week!

Re: "Sent from my iPhone" - why?

I'm used to sending emails with decent grammar and formatting - so when I was forced to use a phone (at the time only a simple SE handset, not QWERTY, only Gmail browser) to send emails, I always used a signature which mentioned that I was on a phone.

Otherwise, I think it's easy to mis-interpret mood, sobriety, e.t.c.

Assuming the iPhone has onscreen QWERTY, which I believe it does (or at least a keyboard of some description), and allows you to use at least some formatting options, I don't think it's necessary - aside from advertising.

Re: "Sent from my iPhone" - why?

If like me you have your business emails coming through on your iPhone as well as desktop it's usefull as it lets people know that you are out and about and so not to expect you at your desk.

Agree with both.

If I'm replying on my phone I'll often only craft a single line reply rather than a longer more thought out message. The sig helps people realise that I'm not being rude or short with them, but am out and about.

Re: "Sent from my iPhone" - why?

Is there a way to have different signatures for different mail accounts ?

As I check both my work and my personal emails ?

I changed mine to "sent from my expensive designer ultracool, oh so sophisticated iPhone. Dontcha wish you had a phone like me, dontcha? Instead of that Blackberry or Nokia your corporate paymasters forced upon ya. Dontcha?"
