Question Why has iTunes stopped "Auto Starting" when (new) iPhone is connected?

Hi all,

As per title really, I've just myself an iPhone 3G (had a 2G before), but now when I connect it to my PC iTunes doesn't automatically open and start syncing (it did with my 2G).

I've checked the options and "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" is ticked and if I then go Edit>Preferences>Devices>, "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" is unticked.

I also haven't been in to iTunes and (knowingly!) changed anything.

Help!

I guess it is, but I haven't touched any of Vista's startup settings.

Just to be clear, it's not that I want/need iTunes to autostart when Vista starts up.

I used to just be able to plug my (old 2G) iPhone in and iTunes would then automatically appear and start automatically syncing my iPhone.

Now when I connect my new 3G iPhone, nothing happens.

If I manually start iTunes, the auto syncing start and all is good, but there's no auto start of iTunes anymore for me.

I found it a bit random too. (also using vista)
A couple of times when I plugged it in I got "unrecognized device"....

Now, I always manually start iTunes first, then connect.

Yep, thats what i meant. When i took it out of Startup in Windows Defender it wouldnt startup when i plugged in my iPhone. Then when i reinstalled Vista and hadnt taken it out it starts up as normal (not taking it out of the list now).

Thanks.

The weird thing is that I haven't touched Windows Defender, MSCONFIG etc to stop this from happening, it's only stopped autostarting since I moved to an iPhone 3G.

Azzin - your more trusting than me, i wont let iTunes do anything on its own. I want to know everything that it does and when it does it.

Its a nightmare application

Re: Why has iTunes stopped "Auto Starting" when (new) iPhone is connected?

I think the 1st option has changed from 'Start iTunes when this device is connected' to 'Auto Sync when this device is connected' (or similar) meaning no more auto start which isn't a bad thing.

I assumed it was just a change in 8.2?
