Messages Ringtone 2g Phone

I have updated to s/w 3.0 and lost my sms (now called messages) special ringtone. Any ideas how I can change the ringtone to my own sound?

I use iringer for my ringtones, i think you are asking about the sms tone, i too would like to change this but i have been told elsewhere on this forum that at the moment it is not possible to add to the 10 sms tones that are already available.
Hopefully someone will be able to help at some stage.

Re: Messages Ringtone 2g Phone

Not what you want ie your OWN sounds but there is an app on Cydia
Talking Alerts. It changes the alerts to a little jingle followed by "You have a text message/email" etc

I use that. I wish it was a little bit louder though.

Re: Messages Ringtone 2g Phone

I think I have it sorted, my 24 ringtone seems to work fine on text messages.

I first downloaded Iphone Browser from Google which allows access to the phone file system.
You then need to convert your .mp3 format sound file to .caf format and save on your pc desktop, this has been delt with before. Your new file will need to have the same name as the one you are replacing i.e sms-received5.caf
Connect your phone to pc via usb lead then open the Iphone Browser which will display your file system then go to
root/System/Library/Audio/UISounds
If you scroll down near the bottom you will find sms-received files 1-6.
All I did then was copy and past my ring tone and it overwrites the existing (dont forget it must have the same name) restart the Ipone and Hay-Presto, well it worked for me.
