Not sure how you mean that it's not in focus?

The exif info in the photo shows the aperture as f2.8, and on any camera, with the main subject that close to the lens, the background will be blurred at that aperture. You need an aperture of at least f16 to get the whole background and foreground in focus. Looking at a the few photo's I've taken with the iPhone, they are all at f2.8 which would suggest that it's fixed to that aperture, with the shutter speed and iso settings altering dependent on current lighting. I've done a fair bit of photography and own a Nikon D70 DSLR, which obviously the iPhone doesn't even get close to!
Of course there isn't going to much (if any) difference between the 3g and 3gs, and there is only 1 megapixel between them, but for a camera phone with a tiny sensor and extremely small optics, it's pretty good
