Upgrade to iPhone 3GS from iPhone 2G running 3.0 ?

I have a 2g running 3.0 software and am considering getting a 3GS Sim Free, then unlocking (for Orange) & jailbreaking. I've found the signal poor on the 2G compared to an old Nokia I have, would I get a better signal quality & would I gain much overall ?

You cant unlock a 3GS yet.

You will be stuck with o2

Doh ! must be just a matter of time though, although I've just seen the HTC Hero....mmmm
