stuck with 2.2.1 HELP!

those of you who are enjoying their 3.0, i envy you! so whats it like? i ask becos itunes no longer detects my iphone, so i can only imagine the fun you guys are having.

i was prompted to download the latest itunes 8.2 in order to install the 3.0 up until then i was running the pevious itunes without issue and didnt feel the need to install itunes 8.2. now the problem is that although itunes 8.2 installed over the previous version and runs as it should, when i connect my iphone it no longer detects it although it shows up in vista. itunes locks up and i think firefox 3 also locks up along with it but everything else runs fine.

all the apple services are running, restarted vista several times as well as the iphone but to no avail, i'm going to be the only one still running 2.2.1 if i cant resolve this so please help me out. i searched the forums looking for anything related the itunes error message:

"itunes could not connect to the iphone because an invalid response was recieved from the device"

Have you tried a different USB port preferably one that you have never been connected to the iphone before.

Or do a hard reset on the iphone and try again. Check out Apple's tech help website for details of how to do a hard reset, it's years since I had to do one and I've forgotten how.

previous itune build would not let me install the 3.0 unless i first upgraded to the latest itunes 8.2, which cannot detect the iphone.

unfortunately the itunes repair install thats supposed to fix and replace missing files for instance didnt resolve it. i have also tried a clean install after having removed every known itunes registry entry and left over files after uninstallation, but still the problem persists.

each time itunes locks up trying to detect the iphone i would disconnect and restart the PC whilst hard resetting the iphone hoping it would finally be the end of it but still no luck....

Re: stuck with 2.2.1 HELP!

forgot about 3.0,

but you can downgrade itunes so the iphone gets detected again,
then restore and update,

or try the quickpwn tool and use that to restore your iphone,
and see if itunes picks it up then...

if you use the iphone reset feature it will take 2 hours....

DFU mode might work not 100%, but itunes normally will pick it up in recovery mode and give you a option to restore

Re: stuck with 2.2.1 HELP!

only other thing you can try is,
make a new log in account on the computer,
set up itunes on it and then connect your iphone,

next times it freeze up check task manager to see if any other apps is non responsive,

Re: stuck with 2.2.1 HELP!

i have just finished installing 3.0

but on a different rig running XP pro SP3. i had to take my agieng Dell out of storage and install the latest itunes which works without issue. same itunes account details as before and it discovered the iphone in seconds thereafter i was able install 3.0.

i will continue (with everyones help) to figure out why it didnt work in vista and will be setting up a new account as suggested by DJACID to see it that resolves the issue.

i would like to thank everyone for their suggestions but keep them comming, until it works in vista, the issue remains.

i tried some of the troubleshooting tips from apple but to no avail, so i am still open to more suggestions....

Re: stuck with 2.2.1 HELP!

ok got it working in vista, installed to a partition of its own in a different directory (different drive) and migrated the itunes music folder over to it. however i had to drag and drop the library info to the new directory and then select that new library. now my C drive is free from approximately 10 gigs of videos, podcasts, photos, music and apps.....
