Iphone 3G PAYG help

Ok, I am going to get an iPhone 3G 8gb from O2 store, £340 + 1year free Data and Wi-Fi.

I would like to know..

I have a wireless router at home, so i can you that Wi-fi for free right?

On the O2 site it says...

"Don't forget, if you're on Pay & Go, you won't be able to get Visual Voicemail, call merging or Internet tethering. And you'll need to change your data (APN) settings to use services like mobile internet."

What does the Internet tethering mean? Also whats that about the Data settings? Will this effect my home wi-fi? Data?

Last 1, say i got this phone tomorrow and topped up £10, so my anniversary date will be 18th of every month, do i have to top up £10 every month to carry on the free Data bolt-on? Or can i not top up for say 4 months (wont happen but just say) and i will still get them.

Cheers guys hope you can help

Re: Iphone 3G PAYG help

WiFi use via your existing home connection is totally free

Tethering is using your iPhone as a modem to allow your computer to connect to the internet, via the O2 network. There is an additional charge for this service and the data used via it.

Not 100% sure about your last question though, but I'd assume you'd need to top up by your anniversary date each month. Hopefully somebody will confirm though

To answer the last bit:

The mobile internet and free wifi is FREE for a year, you only have to top up after first year is over.

However, you will want to top up to make phone calls. If you top up by £10 or more you get to choose a package to go with it. Initially it is Favourite Place (free calls from a postcode). I changed it to Text Anytime which gives me 300 free texts a month.

So, to sum up. FREE 3G internet and Wifi (Cloud & BT Openzone) for a year. Top up by £10 a month and you get a package. To keep the package you do have to top up by £10 a month or more. If you don't top up you don't get the package but still have the FREE 3G internet and Wifi for the year.

Top up packages: http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/paygo

To keep the 3G internet & Wifi after the year you will have to top up by £10 a month.

Re: Iphone 3G PAYG help

With regards to having to change settings, IIRC the phone is setup for pay monthly data and you have to go into the connection settings to change it to use the pay and go server.

I am sure someone will be along in a while to give you the server settings.
