airplane mode

when i went on holiday last year i intended to watch a few movies on my iphone while flying only to be told that even in "airplane mode" i would have to turn it off by the stewardess

i asked her if this was correct and apparantly she asked someone more senior who confirmed i had to switch off

is this correct, does anyone else use this mode while flying?

going away in a few weeks so i'd like to try it again

Re: airplane mode

Why would you even mention it to them! Just stick it in Airplane mode and get on with your viewing! If they say anything just say its an ipod touch!

End of the day us lot know a lot about technology and know its perfectly fine to use in airplane mode on a plane but these flight attendents prob arent as tech savvy as us so as soon as they hear the word phone they think no chance just to cover their backs!

Its probably more to do with not effecting their sales of those stupid adapters for headphones to watch their films

Re: airplane mode

IT may just be a company policy but there is no technical reason a GSM phone is any risk to a commercial airliner. It's sometimes more about user interaction etc but if you wait till after the safety breifing your fine with an ipod...
