Is there a 'cap' on my o2 PAYG Unlimited Internet iPhone (1 year)

Hey guys - I'm wondering, is there a cap on my internet when I'm on the unlimited Internet and Wifi for iPhone bolt on/package with o2.

You see I'm connecting via my netbook to the internet, using the [ payandgo.o2.co.uk / payandgo / password ] settings and need to no this.

I don't want to get charged or even worse, the package removed altogether!

So, is there a monthly limit?

Tethering isn't allowed on the Bolt On packages you mention, so in theory everything you use is chargeable.

That said, many people have gotten away with it via the tethering apps available when jailbroken. But it is still against the terms and conditions of the service.

The iPhone data bundle doesn't have a fixed limit or much of a fair usage policy, unlike the other O2 data Bolt On's. But the T&C's do say that if your use affects the service they can provide others then they will contact you and may ultimately remove this service from your account.

BTW.. moved to the iPhone forum

Re: Is there a 'cap' on my o2 PAYG Unlimited Internet iPhone (1 year)

Hi Rob,
I wonder if you could help me too, then, please?

I've gone down the Simplicity route and am hoping to pick up a PAYG 3GS on Friday.

I've added the "unlimited" Web and Wi-fi bolt-ons through Simplicity, as I didn't want the hassle of swapping between PAYG and Simplicity SIMs depending on what I wanted to do with the phone.

However, I've bought the "OrbLive" app, which allows you to stream media (music, film, etc.) that is remotely stored on your PC over to your iphone. Now, I won't be doing this 24*7, I hasten to add - and the Simplicity T's&C's say "continuous" streaming is not allowed (or something similar) - so do you know whether it is likely to be an issue if I (periodically) use "OrbLive" for streaming media?

Cheers!

If you are streaming over your own wireless network at home, its nothing to do with the O2 contract, and you shouldn't be charged for it al all, as your not using O2 network, just your own wireless signal.

You'll be fine. Apple sell this sort of application through the AppStore, along with the likes of Simplify Media, which O2 are very aware of. Constant streaming 24/7 that uses a lot of bandwidth will be noticed and may be jumped upon, but occasional or even fairly heavy use wont be.

They set a precedent by supplying a handset with the YouTube application installed, which is a video streaming application.

The T&C's are there to cover O2's back against over the top customers, they wont come down on the average bloke on the street for doing what you're intending

Excellent guys, thanks for the replies.

Yep, I've nothing more sinister planned than hopefully streaming music while away from the house, so as not to eat into the 32Gb. Not sure what else I intend to fill the iphone with instead though, but I thought OrbLive/Simplify would be a convenient way to save memory!

Thanks again,

I used to do the same with Simplify. 8GB iPhone but so long as I had a decent data connection, I had endless amounts of music

I often listen to music at work so it came in extremely handy there!
