3gs queues

I'm going to "try" and get a 3gs hopefully on friday, its my first iphone so I'm trying to find out what the queues will be like, I know its not as revolutionary as the first two so I'm guessing the queues will be less, but based on the 3g, how fast did it sell out, in other words, what are my chances of getting one on friday morning from o2, will I have to start queuing at 6am?!?

p.s. before anyone says preorder it, I have an o2 open code so have to do it through o2.

p.p.s. mods; sorry if I've posted this in an inappropriate place, I couldnt figure out anywhere appropriate...

Re: 3gs queues

Hmmm a tricky question. Stores open at 9am or 9.02am so i would think 7am should be plenty early enough. Depends on store stock. Apple store i went into today had no idea how much stock would be arriving.

Re: 3gs queues

I should be getting one reserved at my local O2 shop, and seeing as it's only 10 mins walk away I'll probably pop down after work on the Thursday to make sure I have one waiting, and to see how much interest they've had, then decide how early to get there in the morning.

I went into the shop on Wednesday to ask what they were doing on launch day, they took my details (name, number, model of iPhone I wanted) and said they would give me a call a day or two beforehand, and that they would reserve one for me. Hopefully I'll get a call in the next couple of days, but'll still go in Thursday evening to see if they've got them in and a) if I have one reserved and b) how many names they've got down.

Based on this I'll decide when to go in the morning They're opening at 9am apparently so I'll probably end up getting there at 8:30ish

surely as long as you get your pac code from your existing contract you can keep the number no matter where you move to?

Re: 3gs queues

I went to a couple of local O2 shops. Neither would reserve a phone for me, and neither had any idea of stock.

They didn't seem to be expecting a rush, and suggested that if I were there at 9am I'd get the phone.

Re: 3gs queues

my O2 said its first come first serve . . . But to be honest i live in stockton, near boro and i cant imagine it being a mad rush in the stockton store .

But the guy from carphone warehouse said i could pre order from wednesday so im going to pop in on wednesday and see what the crack is . If its not as simple as he made out, ie; cant buy phone without signing contract etc then i will pop into O2 and ask how much interest there has been etc .

Never under-estimate the power of the Apple Fanboy

I think it will be busy and stock will go quickly, but I can't see there being queues around the streets as with previous launches.

Re: 3gs queues

my local o2 store are doing pre-orders at the moment and i'm on the list. Apparently they are having a shipment for Friday and also on Saturday and with my being 9th on the list i'm pretty sure i'm going to get one on either of those days.

I refuse to queue for stuff! I like an easy life :D

I'm going to give my local a ring tonight to see if I can pre-order - There's an O2 and Carphone Warehouse within 10 minutes walk of where I am, so there should be no problem getting one

Re: 3gs queues

well I've been to three o2 stores and none of them would let me put my name down, so I have the dilema of going for the store round the corner in a small town which will have a little stock or going into birmingham and trying one of the bigger stores (i.e. the bullring) who will have more stock, but probably much bigger queues!

Is there not a CPW store nearby? They seem to be happy to take pre-orders.

Scrub that... just re-read the comment about open code.... whoops.

CPW will just be doing that to ensure they get their commission on a new contract.

iPhone 3GS, showing up early on launch day?

This will be my first iPhone. I've had an iPod Touch since launch and decided I'd want a phone with a faster cpu and such, so I'm gonna just take the plunge. Hell, it'll be my first contract phone as well.

What I'm wondering is, should I show up early on launch day? If so, how early? I've never stood in a considerable queue for anything before, but I have an interesting weekend coming up where having a decent smart phone could be useful so I'm considering it.

Anyone else planning on doing the geek thing and lining up on friday morning?

Why not pre-order from mobiles.co.uk and have it delivered on Friday ? (contract only)

Re: iPhone 3GS, showing up early on launch day?

Impossible to tell at this stage. Last time, most of the queuing was due to Apple supplying too few phones to the O2 stores and their systems going down. Hard to tell how much hype this model will generate. Why not just make a point of wandering past your local store early on – if there's a monster queue, keep walking if it's a little one get in line.

Have a read through the Samsung forum for opinions of mobiles.co.uk delivery service and how reliable they are. I'm not saying you'll definitely have problems, but as with any delivery service if you really, really want to ensure you get your hands on it this Friday, go to a shop in person. There have been some disappointed Samsung Omnia HD customers recently.

Re: 3gs queues

Thing is mobiles.co.uk cancelled my order saying basically tell me they had no stock left for launch and claimed their site was going slow so the stock hand't updated yet they are taking orders for launch still. They also only state despatch for the 18th, where as CPW say you will receive it on the 19th. I've gone with CPW, but as mobiles seem to be part of CPW you would think they would both offer the same info on their sites.

Re: 3gs queues

When I called O2 last week they said they were confident of stock and confident that demand would not be high due to cost! I was in the Apple Store today and a genius said that they were confident of stock in all there stores!
I think I will still be reserving at a CPW just in case but my own personal opinion is that the cost here will be the factor that deters a lot of buyers so it will really depend on stock levels - maybe they will divert some to the US were stock has sold out!
